The Next Waltz – Nov. 23/24 – Alberta Rose Theatre, Portland, OR

The Next Waltz

The Next Waltz

On the Friday and Saturday nights of Thanksgiving weekend, November 23rd and 24th, Portland’s gifted music community gathers at the historic Alberta Rose Theatre to reprise what was one of 2011′s signature musical events, The Next Waltz: a tribute to the legendary rock concert The Last Waltz. Rapturously described by both audience members and performers as “one of the best nights of Portland music ever”, last year’s show sold out in advance and raised nearly $2,000 for the Jeremy Wilson Foundation, which helps fund and advocates for health care for Northwest musicians, and also collected a substantial food donation for Oregon Food Bank. The Jeremy Wilson Foundation and Oregon Food Bank are again the beneficiaries of this year’s event.

Tickets are $20.00 in advance and $25.00 day of show. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to Oregon Food Bank. Minors are admitted if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Doors open at 7 PM; the shows begin at 8 PM. Advance tickets can be purchased online at; by phone at (503) 764-4131; or in person at the Alberta Rose Theatre box office, 3000 NE Alberta Street, or Music Millennium, 3158 East Burnside Street.

The Last Waltz was the celebratory 1976 farewell concert by rock legends The Band, spawning the likewise legendary rockumentary by Martin Scorcese, and featuring performances by Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, and Muddy Waters, among others. As conceived by longtime Portland music journalist (Willamette Week), broadcaster (KBOO Community Radio), and performer Jeff Rosenberg, and co-produced with Adam East and the Alberta Rose Theatre, The Next Waltz recreates almost all of the original concert’s set list – over 30 songs in all – featuring leading lights of the local music scene.
