Welcome Billboard Readers

GJ

We were recently asked by The Deer Lodge to submit a George Jones cover for a tribute released on the 1 year anniversary of his death. Here’s our version of Jones’ gospel classic, written by Leon Payne, “The Selfishness in Man” as reviewed in the April 29 edition. The words to this song are unforgettable. It was recorded with a Baldwin Fun Machine, my mom and my sweetheart are singing background vocals.

Watch Drunken Prayer Terrorize Western N.C.

“the video is the result of being snowed in and day drinking in Asheville, North Carolina. It started out as a poorly executed Bigfoot hoax and devolved into just going to a bar for the rest of the afternoon”

Thanks Blurt Magazine for the review of “I Saw It With My Own Two Eyes Again”, the new video from the House of Morgan series.

Thank you North Carolina.

This weekend we played three of our best shows since returning to The South from our beloved Portland, Ore.

Chapel Hill spoke/screamed in tongues at The Cave as we played “Just A Closer Walk With Thee“.

Cheering strangers in Wilmington at The Satellite Bar and Lounge grinned ear to ear, like mules eating garlic, while we played new unheard songs.

We were welcomed back to Carrboro with bagpipes and go-go dancers. As a result, our “soundcheck” at The Station lasted 45 minutes.

It’s times like these that I’m reminded to be thankful I get to do what I do.

Drunken Prayer 2013 Year In Review

drugs

This weekend finds Drunken Prayer starting 2014 as we did ’13: giving praise to the disputed King of Rock and Roll at Elvisfest! in Chapel Hill, NC. TRUE FACT: my very first public gig was a 4th grade talent show – I sang “Hound Dog” in a white bespangled jumpsuit my mom made for me. What’s that? Of course I won! I was so good that later that day I was mugged in the street by a large Italian boy who insisted I “SING ELVIS” under threat of punching. This was my introduction to show business.

Here’s a look back at 2013:

Heigh-Ho (Nobody Home): Old Medicine for a Modern World

“Heigh-Ho (Nobody Home)” is a 16th century English madrigal that’s rumored to scare away the demons of hard times. As a parting gift to 2013, here’s our version of the tune off our newest record House of Morgan. The original tracks were recorded live at KXCI in Tucson, AZ, with mandolin and backing vocals by W.C. Beck.

HOUSE OF MORGAN Released Today, 11/19/13

I’m honestly surprised to announce the arrival of the 3rd full-length Drunken Prayer album, HOUSE OF MORGAN. Most of these songs were self-recorded on a Tascam 4-track cassette machine, the rest on free recording software. Anyone can do it!
Thanks to Will Chatham and Juniana Lanning for making it sound so brilliant. Listen to three of the songs here.

Fluff and Gravy Records, take it away…

“Drunken Prayer’s second full-length release on Portland-based Fluff and Gravy Records finds Geer taking things into his own hands.

While 2012’s critically acclaimed Into The Missionfield was a densely layered studio undertaking, featuring strings, horns, and several marquee players, House of Morgan was self-recorded, largely in his bedroom with nearly all of the instruments being played by Geer. Though this record is, by design, a sharp contrast to previous efforts, this is undoubtedly a Drunken Prayer record. Geer’s trademark vocals, guitar playing and lyrics are the threads that link these divergent records together.”

“House of Morgan” Pre-sales Begin

Fluff and Gravy Records, has begun online presales of the new Drunken Prayer record, House of Morgan. The album is a virtual introduction to the voices in my head. The album was self-recorded with a cassette 4-track and desktop software.
Here’s what all the publicists are saying…
