I’ve started a new series on our Patreon page called Old Flames and Sweet Inspiration. This is an ongoing collection of home recorded songs I love by heroes and friends and I’m opening up the first post to the public for free.
“And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda” was written by Scottish-born Australian singer-songwriter Eric Bogle in 1971. I know it as performed by The Pogues from their 1985 album Rum, Sodomy & the Lash and that’s the version I’ve based this on. Click the link above to read on.
I’m under no delusion that these covers will hit as hard as their inspirations. This series is an homage, a labor of love that I’ve always wanted to do and I’m grateful that listeners through Patreon have provided the sandbox and inspiration to get it going. I don’t how many of these I’ll do because there’s a near bottomless well of great songs to play.
We’ll see how it goes.
